 Kalabashi Triple Distilled Gin

GIN FUN FACTS:

• The name of the beverage comes from the French name for the juniper berry or genièvre.  Changed by the Dutch to genever.  Then shortened by the English to gin.
• It comes from Fransiscus Sylvius.  A 17th-century professor of medicine at the University of Leiden in Holland.  He distilled the juniper berry with spirits to produce an inexpensive medicine.  It had diuretic properties of juniper-berry oil.
• The drink became very popular.  Very quickly.
• Soon brought to England by soldiers returning from the “Low Countries”.
• In the 18th century excessive consumption of the cheap drink became a social problem.
