Activated Carbon / Consumable

To sum it up activated carbon will remove impurities. A consumable used to remove a range of impurities. In brief heavy metals and others. Notably the activated carbon added as a material or in a filter. Able to remove the impurities during the distilling process. Hence the impurities are then filtered out before ready.

What it is made from?
Made from various materials such as coal, coconut shells, wood, and other carbon-rich substances. These materials are processed at high temperatures to create a highly porous structure that allows for the adsorption of particles and pollutants.

Because at Ketelkraal we know what we are talking about!

Activated Carbon and Distilling!

Firstly, soak it in distilled water for at least one hour. Helping remove  the things that will affect your distilling.

Secondly, place in a filter housing along with the necessary supports or connections. Most filters use a standard connection.

Thirdly, connect the filter to the distilling system.

Turn on the system and allow to flow through the filter. The carbon will adsorb unwanted things, leaving it pure.

Check the flow rate. If slowing down, turn off the system and replace the activated carbon.

Store in a cool, dry place. High temperatures make it weaker.

Because at Ketelkraal we provide you with all you need!

Apart from Activated Carbon for Distilling here are some other facts about this product.

Activated carbon, also known as activated charcoal,  a highly porous form of carbon with a large surface area. Making it effective for adsorption and various filtration processes.

Here are some common uses:

1. Firstly, Water Purification : Activated carbon, widely used to filter drinking water by removing impurities, contaminants, chlorine, and odors.

2. Secondly, Air Purification : Used in air filters to remove pollutants, odors, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in homes, offices, and industrial settings.

3. Thirdly, Medical Applications : In medicine, activated carbon is used to treat poisonings and overdoses due to its ability to adsorb toxins in the stomach and intestines.

4.  As well as Aquarium Maintenance : Helps keep aquariums clean by removing impurities and toxic substances from the water.

5. Also Gold Recovery : Activated carbon is utilized in mining operations for gold recovery, specifically in the cyanide process where it adsorbs dissolved gold particles.

6. Food and Beverage Industry : It is used in decolorizing and purifying liquids, such as sugar and wine, to remove undesired colors and tastes.

7. Industrial Processes : Activated carbon is employed in various chemical processes for purification and separation, including decaffeination of coffee and gas purification.

8. Gas Masks and Respirators : A key component in gas masks and respirators to remove harmful chemicals and gases from the air.

9. Odor Control : Activated carbon is used in a variety of products, like trash can deodorizers and refrigerator fresheners, to neutralize odors.

10. Soil Remediation : Used in environmental cleanup efforts to remove pollutants from soil and groundwater.

11. Lastly, Cosmetic and Skin Care Products : Activated carbon is an ingredient in some skin care products for its purported detoxifying and cleansing effects.

These applications benefit from activated carbon’s high adsorption capacity and versatility, making it an essential material in many industries.

Consumables

To summarize consumables for distilling include yeast, a fermentation container, a still, clean water, and flavorings such as fruits and herbs. Other items needed for distilling the liquid, a hydrometer to measure the alcohol content, a thermometer to measure the temperature of the liquid, and a filter.
